Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song with very simple picking on the guitar for intimacy. Of course, I wrote it in the middle of winter, remembering how I used to hate winter. At that time I was struggling to pay the bills, and was really alone, with no family, walking home at night visualising happy white Christmas' with someone I really loved and who made me feel safe and secure. The cold bare starkness of winter reminds me of having no one, or thinking everything is great in a relationship with someone...then one day it's ended and you're left dazed and confused in your own internal winter. Fortunately, winter is a totally different experience for me now.
Lyrics
WINTER'S HERE
Have I always played,
Too much of this game?
Too much of this pain
Is self-inflicted.
I walk in the rain
And pass your gate,
Hoping that in time
You just might be there.
Funny how the days flew;
All the ways you,
Mesmerised me.
Funny how the time goes;
Love grows cold,
You hypnotised me.
And all I know is winter's here
And all I know is winter's here
I had a dream,
But it disappeared
And nothing warms a broken heart in winter.
You were the sea,
The sea that overwhelmed me.
I know I have to face it now it's over.
(Instrumental)
