A couple of the tunes I've written have the, "I have had it and I'm outta here" theme. This is just one of them. Could write one a day, I reckon.

    Story Behind the Song
The opening chords are just a couple of the kind of chords that I just love to write, to strum; out loud; openly; that creates for me a sort of meditative space. They're just D and A but the 4th is played in the "bass" on both chords, although I'm just playing the top 4 strings, as the intro begins.

Lyrically it wasn't until, in retrospect, that I saw the words were about death, more or less, which coincided with the passing of an old friend. The opening verse is definitely about Tony Travaglini, who lost a fight with cancer.

And, of course, the second verse is about our men and women in the miltary fighting in the Middle East, God Bless Them All.

In spite of our valiant efforts and heroism, abroad and in everyday life, I know we all wish we could "crawl back inside" every now and then...

    Lyrics
    “I’m Gonna Crawl Back Inside”
Words and Music, Frank Patterson 2003
    For November Charlie

1V: Today I stopped running in circles. Today I turned my back on the grind.
They say you’ve gotta cover your bases.
I say you’ve gotta swing at ‘em blind.
BR: Is it now or never? This is the time.

2V: Sand billows out over the desert. The sun reflected in every eye.
They can think of a thousand places
That they’d be better off to die.
BR: Is it now or never? Is this the time,
Into the hereafter, into the sublime?

3V: I wish the world would come to its’ senses; an ATM in every store.
I wish the troubled minds would stay out of trouble
And take their pets out in their car for a ride.
BR: Is it now or never? Is this the time?
Now and forever, is it love that we’ll find?

CH: Is this the right way to Phoenix? Is this the right way to drive?
Aren’t there times when you wish you could run and hide?
I’m gonna crawl back inside. I’m gonna crawl back inside.
I’m gonna crawl back inside. I’m gonna crawl back inside.

    SOLO:

1V: Today I stopped running in circles. Today I turned my back on the grind.
They say you’ve gotta cover your bases.
I say you’ve gotta swing at ‘em blind.
