Story Behind the Song
This song originally came from the Sigmund Blue reportoire. I always wanted to hear more than one guitar on it, so I was delighted to put it on the album. There was no decision to be made about the drums: Andy Goodson's part had been perfect in Sigmund Blue, and I didn't want to change a thing. I considered bringing in Brandi Parker to do the lead guitar, but I figured it would basically be a Sigmund Blue track at that point. Apologies to Andy's father-in-law, who was trying to sleep when we put down the lead guitar in his basement.
Lyrics
You're alone,
and I don't know why.
You fall
like it's from the sky.
Am I wasting time
trying to believe
that your faith is
nigh impossible to sheath?
You form the mountain
that you're scaling up,
I believe, I believe.
You're climbing higher,
but you still belong
on the ground,
so come on down.
You've known
for a long, long time
that you're part
of something bigger.
Is it something
I can honestly conceive
to be a basis for
this self-adhesive need?
You call the level
of your own demise,
I believe, I believe.
You'll saunter up the cliff
and bravely dive
onto the ground,
so come on down.
That's a party.
You're making part of this,
and so am I.
But I believe that I believe.
From that thing you're on
it's just a stride
to the ground,
so come on down.
