Story Behind the Song
I wrote “Drunk On Pain” after the deadly raid on Trails End Ranch, which so tragically took the life of my husband Donald Scott. I stormed into my bedroom slamming the door behind me screaming, “I don’t need any booze because I’m as drunk as I can be! I’m Drunk On Pain and you can’t get any drunker than that!” and I wrote this song.
Lyrics
I’m drunk on pain, its drivin’ me insane
I’m drunk on pain, here ya’ come again
It’s not whiskey no baby it’s not wine
It’s just your memory that you left behind
I can’t sleep at night, I’ve got you on my mind
I just toss and turn, for YOU my candle burns
Well, I’m drunk on pain, tell me who’s to blame
I’m drunk on pain, it’s driving me insane
It’s not whiskey no baby it’s not wine
It’s just your memory that stays on my mind
When you left me you left me, You left me here alone
Now I’m fighting trying to just hang on
So I’m drunk on pain, your driving me insane
I’m drunk on pain, tell me who’s to blame
It’s not whiskey no baby it’s not wine
It’s just your memory that you left behind
So I’m gonna take it one day at a time
Cuz it’s your memory you left here behind oh yeah
It’s just your sweet ever-lovin memory that stays on my mind
