Story Behind the Song
The first five hundred years of this past millennium was heavily dominated by, or, at the very least, heavily influenced by the Roman Catholic Church. As early as the 4th Century, heretics had come to be viewed as enemies of the state, especially where disruption of public order was involved, and open heresy was quickly quelled. In 12th century France, there was resurgence of heresy, in an organized form.
To counteract the effects of this, the church established the Inquisition, comprised mainly of Franciscans, whose purview, under the papacy, was outside of the established hierarchy of the church. With the power to excommunicate even princes, over the following few centuries, the Inquisition's influence spread throughout many portions of Europe. Though generally regarded as fair, there were some individuals that were accused of excessive cruelty and abuses. Most notably, Tomas de Torquemada, the first Grand Inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition, who tortured and executed thousands of reputed heretics in the sixteenth century.
This sets the background for "Grand Inquisition" which, without too much imagination, could also serve as a depiction of modern day child abuse.

Grand Inquisition

What gives you the right, to wake me up in the middle of the night,
And drag me from my bed, with a cloth of black pulled over my head?
You take me to that vile institution.
You pose the question but there is no solution.
Moaning in the dark, pain screams agony from every mark
Made on my body and soul, each time I’m pulled from this black hole
Peace will only come if I renounce my position,
Under the baleful eye of the Grand Inquisition.
YOU LIE, YOUR WORDS DEFY THE PROPHECY
{Please don’t hurt me any more}
IF YOU’RE TO LIVE, THEN YOU MUST GIVE UP THIS HERESY
{I don’t want to die}
No more can I bear, I can’t succomb to this evil fate.
The pain becomes my world, My thoughts once kind, now turn to hate.
My words are twisted in a mad convolution. T
The concepts merge into a sick evolution.
In the light of day, a broken body and a broken mind.
Look deep into my soul, what once I had, but now cannot find.
My thoughts are now consigned to perdition. T
The victim of the Grand Inquisition.
YOU LIE, YOUR WORDS DEFY THE PROPHECY
{Please don’t hurt me any more}
IF YOU’RE TO LIVE, THEN YOU MUST GIVE UP THIS HERESY
{I don’t want to die}
