Story Behind the Song
This track really shows the musical chops and songwriting skill of the band. A.R. Surface borrowed friend and later Promoter's Music Theory textbook their junior year of college, and has yet to give it back. In that time, he has taught himself music theory and classic chordal progression/musical framework. Brooke says if he keeps writing songs like the ones on Letters, he can keep the book indefinitely.
Lyrics
Well I got some news from you
And it's coming down like lightning
I could send a note to you
But it'd never get there soon enough
For me to let you know
So you send the letter
And you seal it with sarcasm
So you write me a letter
And I pack my suitcase
(cause it's all I want and all I need)
'Til I see your face
I'll look you up, call you up
So hold on 'til you ge ttht call from me
Up and down the circle
This one stays in place
When I roll back the cover
This is what I'll say;
"When I see you standing,"
Or some other old line
And I'll wonder
Is forever so ar away today?
Well it's been a couple years
Since I heard about your problems
I could wait a couple more
But I'd never wait just long enough
For me to let you know
You write the note,
You try to say that all we are is in our heads
You write the note, you write the letter
You tr yto say that "I'll get better"
You write the note, you write the letter,
You try to say that we'll get better
