Lyrics
I was playing my keyboard at an upscale place. It seemed that ev'ry girl there had a pretty face. The men there were much older, but they didn't despair. The younger chicks all acted liked they didn't care.
When I had an intermission, I sat by this man. He said he liked the way I played and shook my hand. Then this woman came - the best I've seen in my life. He said,"I want to introduce you, son. This is my wife."
When she walked away, I just shook my head.
I thought he would get angry but he smiled instead. He said,"My guess is that you think what I have is nice. Let me buy you a drink and I'll give you some advice."
He said,"I've done a lot of work to get what I have. Some things I've done good. Some things I've done bad. You can be real happy for the rest of your life. Just make a lot of money - buy a trophy wife."(Chorus)
He was quick to tell me he's a CEO. I didn't know what that meant. So I just said,"Oh?" He went on to tell me all about him ex's, his new sports car, and his kids in Texas - how he gets to see them every month or two.
And he'd like to take a trip to Katmandu. He said he'd like to have some more control of his life - to find more time for his kids and his trophy wife.
Chorus
Well I saw on the news that he was caught embezzlin'. But despite what he'd done, he avoided prison. Yet he lost more money that I had seen in my life. But more than that, he lost his trophy wife.
You'd think that I would maybe learn a lesson. But testosterone or a lack of reason has me working many hours in a hectic life. I've made a lot of money - bought a trophy wife.
I've done a lot of work to get what I have. Some things I've done good. Some things I've done bad. I will be real happy for the rest of my life. 'Cause I made a lot of money - bought a trophy wife. (Repeat)
