Story Behind the Song
After breaking the high G on my twelve string, I decided to mess with the tuning a bit, since I would have to change the strings anyway. The result was E major with a bunch of unisons on 1 & 5 (if you're really interested, leave a note and I'll send it to you). Several songs came out of this tuning, and Ben resulted after pondering a $100 bill while playing.
Lyrics
Years of toil and torment haunted him
to the point that when he tried to sleep at night, only visions of his kite filled his head...
So late one night he slipped out through the back.
Kite and key in hand, he found a piece of land slightly higher than the rest for the test
And while the clouds were forming,
the birds ...
were singing songs of warning.
And though the world is frightening,
it's perfect for catching lightning.
And though it shocked his ass, the feeling didn't last---or so he said!
He could have wound up dead.
And so the next day came, and his wife thought him insane, but eventually,
the world was blessed with electricity...
When the world is pressing close behind, ditch your piece of mind and dig into the mess that our ancestors have left as a test.
And when the odds are frightening, the gods are playing games with lightning
And though the world seems fair,
it really doesn't care.
And meanwhile at the lab, the test results don't really look half bad,
but I think we've all been had.
And so the next verse came, and it sounded just the same, but for you and me...
The world is blessed with electricity.
