Lyrics
They said they wanted to rip all the trees from the ground tomorrow and make wreaths from all of the roots. They’re thinking of placing all the children in isolated cabins until the age of seven because that’s when they really start living. I’ve heard that the mountains get annoyed with the clouds due to too much company, and not enough meaningful conversation. We all try to pay lip service to the ones who know us best even though we know we can’t fake them, so we give them a tree root in the shape of our heart. Hey, I think I found a way to ignore all consequences, if I could only get past my conscious; it might work if you’d stop returning my calls when I’m gone. All dogs dream they’re horses, and the same goes for us. Like a fairy tale, we all want something just a little better than “this”. I wanted to tell you that life seems pointless without you and that I’m ready to make it work, but I couldn’t make it past hello. So, I guess I just came to get all of my things. I’ll take back my black sweater and that old VCR. I wish I had a token I could give you before this world explodes, like maybe some bark or a macaroni necklace, but all of these trees are gone, and all the children have conformed. They already have income taxes and office jobs and where they forget to pretend. I think I found a way to look past everything but you. I heard the ignorance is the most blissful part of living, if only I didn’t know that now. But, who knows anyway. I never listen, or at least I think that’s the last thing you said.
