I think this is the remix done by Bob Clearmountain. It was found on Kazaa and sent to me. At the time of the remix session (1980) I thought the background vocal talk was too loud. I was wrong; it sounds pretty good today. The record was remixed at the request of Scott Shannon (important DJ in Baltimore) who told the RCA promotion department director that he would add the record and give it heavy airplay if it was remixed and the background vocals were louder. It didn't seem to matter to anyone that the record (in its original state) was getting huge responses wherever it was played. So the remix was done, but Scott didn't add the new version of the record, and this caused RCA to stop promoting it. Even though the record hit the top ten on every radio station that played it. Years later Scott was the morning guy at WPLJ in NYC and he was playing the record over and over again while he asked his listeners if anyone knew where I was. Someone did and Scott called me at my home in California. He put me on the air and asked me why such a great record was never a hit. I was dumbfounded, but I didn't have the heart to tell him. I just thanked him for playing it, and was happy that people remembered it. |
Label: RCA Records - this is the remixed single
