Story Behind the Song
I wrote it on an airplane trip from Zurich back to Belgrade in March 2000. I like the structure of the verses and chord changes, and it sounds like some old folk song somewhere, but I can't place it.
For me personally the song "works" when a world without my little girl is compared (in my mind anyway) to life in a war torn country... I hope you like it.
Lyrics
LITTLE GIRL
1. Little girl forgive me, I was not there for you
Blowin' out your candles, lacin' up your shoe
It's too late now to change how I've been away so long
Little girl, I sing this song for you little girl
2. Little girl, you go so quiet on the telephone
As if my voice was just a memory of a daddy you've outgrown
And you're too small to believe all my promises until you see my face
Little girl, I'll chase the sky for you little girl
Little girl, just one way to show you
Little girl, just one way to make it so you trust in me again
3. Little girl, tell your mother I'm really comin' home
Go on, tell your brothers they won't be long alone
I've seen a world without you; I've seen a world of tears
Little girl, no more fears for you little girl
