Story Behind the Song
In retrospect this song seems very strange as it's a total mixture of styles: thrash; death; black; there's even some Opeth there (the last part of the song). The main riff was originally in an early song which was really horrible but we felt it was good enough to save. People criticise the song because of the structure however I think it reminds me of Zyklon, which a good thing.
When it came to writing lyrics it was easy because I'd just stayed round a friend's house with some girls who he knew, one of whom I'd upset because I fancied her and I made her uncomfortable. Words were exchanged and I went home, annoyed. The song was intended as an apology to the girl I'd upset. I haven't seen her since but the song does bring back good memories of her.
The majority of the song is from my point of view. Basically I'm saying 'I know I've done wrong but I'm a decent guy if you get to know me.' The 'sung' part (my singing voice sounds really bad) is from the girl's perspective. The "Desensitised" section came from a conversation I had with my best friend about what I'd done. He'd heard both sides of the story and couldn't make his mind up so 'sat on the fence' as it were.
