	Story Behind the Song It's about the lies (fibs, falsehoods) we tell to make ourselves more important than we are. Told from the point of view of someone who believes what he hears or hears what he believes. Song was so popular in the eastern United States that I was asked to appear on American Bandstand. Dick loved the song, but his producer would not let me sing it on the air. (1980 and the opening lyric "Tommy said that he's had some girls in the strangest positions in the back of his car" was a bit much for ABC) So I performed OUT OF MY MIND from the RCA LP instead. It's opening lyric is "If I had known you for a day before I met you I would have shot you on sight" - - So sex was a no, but singing about shooting someone was perfectly fine. - Anyway, thanks to all the fans of the song who have been in touch with me to tell me how much they love it!
