Story Behind the Song
Alex: "I know this girl who is really amazingly talented and nice. She sat across from me in my happy little English class this year. I'd try my best to catch her stare and receive her smile and she knew it. The whole situation worked itself up to a rather interesting story that probably can't be completely followed by just reading the lyrics, but if you read inbetween the lines you might get the picture."
Lyrics
It feels like this:
Waking to a new day, but there's no sun.
How could it be that you found me in your dreams?
How could I have known that would mean the world to me?
You thought me cool
I'd been a fool
I thought you knew
What I've been through
You've been misled, been misled.
So, you've decided to let down your hair
And steal my ability to contain my joy.
But it’s never real.
It feels like this:
Waking from a sweet dream – realized it wasn't there.
Just like that night that we sat on top your roof...just talking.
The stars they filled the sky, and the sky lit up your eyes
And your eyes they flood my mind, my mind was racing
My heart was pounding...but it's never there.
But I've found that space, where I can marvel without your notice.
You've - you're a masterpiece –won’t you hold my stare again
And release me with your smile.
How do you haunt me, why do you stay when I close my eyes?
To try and sleep, to have my dreams but they're not mine when
You amplify, you amplify, with;
Your lips, and your hair, and your eyes - we move in time
Your song, and your dance, and your mind - they can't be mine
And now I've this blank page to fill to make you see
And if there's one thing that I’m sure it’s persistence is the key.
