Story Behind the Song
I've always wondered about that verse in the Bible that says, "No man
can look upon the face of God and live." Especially since God has now
come to earth in the flesh and many saw him face to face. There's still
this belief among many today, that God is way out there somewhere in
space, and we're just left here to fend for ourselves. The truth is
that we can be so close to God that, as Jesus said, we can be "...In
Him and He in us...." And the verse can still remain true that the more
this flesh and sinful nature dies, the clearer his face becomes.
"Stare" is a song that reflects these thoughts and ideas. "Standing eye
to eye and face to face, the distance once between us now erased."
Lyrics
Verse:
I've heard it said
No man can look on the face of God and live
You're way out there and I'm left standing here
So they say
No man can look on the face of God and breathe
Let me die and you can breathe through me
Chorus:
So I look, so I gaze, so I stare at the Son
So I die, so I break, so I wait for the dawn
Standing eye to eye and face to face
The distance once between us now erased
Verse 2:
So I've seen
Man made walls to keep you at arms length
I'm reaching out beyond these boundaries
So I've learned
Your countenance is shining down on me
I've never known such grace and such beauty
