Story Behind the Song
Cliche successfully pokes fun at the standard lazy rock song that pollutes the charts on so many occassions. It's lyrics are a tribute to the recycling of such ideas as 'sitting by the phone' and overuse of the word 'soul'. The song style is very much based around the 'Travis' sound and was a departure away from this band's usual style to take a stab at the music industry which seems to be destroying itself by constantly releasing such tripe. Song was recorded in the band's home studio in March 2003
Lyrics
I miss you babe,
I want you here by my side
And when I saw you leave
I knew I shouldn't have lied,
And can I say I'm sorry,
She meant nothing to me at all.
I'd had a few too many,
'Cos the cocktails were free,
She was a 3rd rate lover in a WC,
I can't believe how tricky this is going to be
For us all, this is all I can do....
So I'm selling my soul to write you a cliche, I'm telling you man it's not all that hard.
Stuck here in a Hollywood movie,
Do you see through me?
This is the first time
Anyone has cheated on me,
I didn't see it coming,
What a fool I can be,
I hope that she was worth it,
Was she better than me atall?
Is this all you can do?
Well you're
Selling your soul to write me a cliche,
I'm telling you man it's not all that hard,
Stuck here in a Hollywood movie,
Do you see through me?
