Story Behind the Song
This song is the theme of the Gray Davis Recall effort; a historic political endeavor and much needed. Every campaign needs a song and here it is, performed by the Dixie Dudes.
It has a catchy country swing and some nice harmonies, but of course the lyrics are the main attraction.
Lyrics
Goodbye, Gray Davis
You put our state for sale and so whoever wants to pay
Can dump their toxic waste in San Francisco Bay
Before your re-election you said our deficit was mild
Now you want a thousand bucks from each man, woman, and child
Who's gonna save us from Governor Davis
Who's gonna save us now?
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye, goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
Let me be the one to warn ya, we want you out of California
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye, goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
With you in charge our prospects are iffy, gotta get rid of you in a jiffy
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye, goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
There's other candidates that we can't shun if we want you out of the Governor's Mansion
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye, goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
From Mendocino County down to Point Loma everybody thinks you're in a coma
Goodbye, Gray Davis, bye-bye
But who's gonna save us from Governor Davis, who's gonna save us
from that Gray Davis, who's gonna save us now?
