When you are a child, "Get to Work" means having to experience a little bit of conscience stuff, some remembering of consequences if you dilly-dally, focusing on what it is you are doing, and some remembering of consequences if you dilly dally. And don't forget the consequences if you dilly dally! This piece evolves in a very subtle way over some 20 minutes, but reflects the mood of work experienced as a child, and a bit of the ominous overtones carried in the background. | MP3.com CD: My Childhood - buy it!

Story Behind the Song
This is one of the few pieces *NOT* performed entirely live in this collection - it uses a Korg S3 drum machine to drive the haunting background rhythm and tapestry, driving itself and a Yamaha TX81Z FM synth AND an Ensonique ESQ-M module, with the lead played on a Korg Wavestation, the whole thing sync'd via SMPTE and repeats driven by a Kawai Q-80 sequencer. Mixed on a Mackie with lots of reverb coming in later from an Alesis Nanoverb. Even though it sounds like things are repeating, they are ever changing in a subtle way, the way one's thoughts evolve under pressure to perform work as a child.
