Story Behind the Song
The inspiration for the song came from seeing a sign in an internet cafe window advertising the sale of land on the moon! This to me was such a ridiculous concept (i.e- selling something that no-one has the right to lay claim to!) that it justified a song!Other things that struck me as wrong were added and the song was made.
Lyrics
Market God:
They're selling land on the moon today I'd like to rob a bank and buy you a star,
And I'll hold it in the Sky with my hands up high and let it shine there all day and night
And nobody would ever even touch it, But everyone would wish that it was theirs,
For that little tiny white dot thats so far away...would twinkle just to show you that I care.
They're selling locks of dead rockstars hair and i wondered who you'd like best,
If you want to see who you can get, They've a website on the internet,
And i know that Ronan keating is alive and well, And im sure that Chris De Burg is still around,
But all it takes is just a few short words...and i put those little bastards in the ground!
They're selling maps to the stars homes, I'll be you stalker if you want me to,
and i'll creep around your house with rings and flowers and shout I'd love ya but we never met,
And security would never even see me,cos id hide and watch you work out from afar,
I cant understand what makes you mad, You sold your privacy when you became a star,
I bought a piece of the wooden cross that Jesus carried through Gallalee,
It was the last one on the shelf but the nice man said he'd order more if i wanted them,
Well that cross must have been more like an oak tree,
to have spawned so many pieces around the world,
But who would take a splinter from an old oak tree.....
And put it in a box and market god .
