Story Behind the Song
Recorded at Legacy Studios, Toronto. Produced by JR Legacy
It's the true story of the man who inspired Martin Luther King.
Michael was just playing this simple riff and I had these lyrics that had no musical home and we recorded it live off the floor.
Lyrics
Freedom
(p.kelly, m.miland)
May 1949, he started with 'There comes a time'
The congregation held hands and prayed,
frightened by the burning cross,
his heavy words, Alabama cops.
This was our judgement day
Behind the man who changed the world
Is the man who built his podium.
We have this dream, for everyone
We have this dream, for freedom under the sun
Reverend Dr. Vernon Johns, didn't sing gospel songs
Just said what was on her mind.
At the sillver stocking Sunday sermon
he denounced the racial vermon
While white sheets murdered his kind.
Behind the man who changed the world
Is the one that built his podium
We have this dream, for everyone
We have this dream, for freedom under the sun.
