    Story Behind the Song
One of our tracks that "suddenly came into being," this one was basically a chord progression that Kent was playing in the studio, and I told him to "work with that." Then a week or two later, this one was born. Great song. Easily one of my top 3 from the new album.

    Lyrics
    yesterday, or could it be?
another light loose from the painter's grasp
a muddled mess of lights and dark
is swirled into a broken glass
    refracting through an opaque film
    wavelengths from above emanate
he wants you to see them.
    can you see them?

will you see what lies before you
can't control the starlight falling closer to the shore

    "It's not about
Taking control, or saving the scene
It's a chance to make it what I want it to be"
Says the man by the window claiming every right
Steals the stars from above and the sand from the night
And in cabinets filled with stack after stack
He sequesters that dream, "And you can't have it back."
With the blacks and the tans and the greens and the blues
"Why won't you stay where I want you to?"

will you see what lies before you
can't control the starlight falling closer to the
surely time will tell the story
of one lost artist caught up in the world against his will

could it be that he wanted too much? trying to fit the
entire night sky on a twelve inch square
and the colors will run, creep black from the sky
mingling with the sand like a subtle affair

will you see what lies before you
can't control the starlight falling closer to the
surely time will tell the story
of one lost artist caught up in the world against his
will you see what lies before you
can't control the starlight falling closer to the shore
