My first real attempt at Emo music. A swinging, dark description of attraction.

    Story Behind the Song
Television is my favorite (and most recent) song I've written. I started with the drum track and wasn't sure what to do with it. It's very simple, and perhaps a bit too much upbeat. I tried improvising lyrics but nothing seemed to fit so I started watching T.V. to ease my frustration. I think 'Making the Band 2' or something was on. After about 20 minutes I began thinking about my relationship with television in general and the muse struck. I wrote the lyrics in about three minutes then recorded the vocal track. I used a lo-fi approach for the first time, sort of like on the Strokes 'Is this it' home recorded version, and really loved it. The rest of the song was built around the feel of the words. It's the quietest vocal I've done and I liked the effect.
What particularly appeals to me about the song is its innuendo. Am I really talking about TV or things that hold my attention for a long time- like women have and do? I hadn't originally intended any sexual connotations but I think it's very appropriate and fitting to attach with the song.
The chorus, though not my catchiest, is honest. It provides contrast to the attraction theme. It's that break that you need after being carried away in fantasy. It is fresh air.

    Lyrics
We’ve known each other such a long time
You never promised that you’d be mine
So many things you put into my mind
    That waste time,
but make me what I am today

Somedays I step outside and I breath

No need to make a fine incision
I watch you like a television
And even though it can’t come true
I always hope that you're watching me too

Some days I step outside and I breath

I came to you cause I needed relief
Something to take me off my aching feet
You took me to your naked zoo
I'm always hoping that you're watching me too
    Cause I watch you

Some days, I step outside and I breathe
