Story Behind the Song
"The 60s were the war years - and not just in Vietnam. In America, there was a full-tilt war between adolescence and age - it was "US" against "THEM". "US" had long hair, free love, expanded consciousness, new highs, new lows, new clothes and new music. "THEM" was stunting, straight, selfish, archaic and imperialistic. All this was communicated through the expanding music scene" ... "After the unconditional surrender of the "US"-generation of the 60s, the "ME"- generation of the 70s came to power. As the war babies entered their thirties, "WE" started to become "THEM". The sound of a generation was splintered into various musical genre that reflected narcissism rather than idealism" ...
- Michael Ochs in Classic Rock Covers
Hippies: Technical Knock Out / Great Lord of Trade : Unbeaten and unchallenged.
"There's a million reasons why hippies failed"
- Joe Strummer
Lyrics
KING OF THE RING
Tired - dead - after a day of work = Job:1 / you: 0.
Alienation ... I guess I could call it Suffocation. Trapped. Parked. Produce and Reproduce. Fresh Slave from the Flesh of a Trite Slave. "I Offer my Devoted Progeny". To Disseminate the Progression. To Venerate the Seer. Prosper. Prominent. Stagnant. "I'm from this Generation of Failure". And the very next that follow.
And the very next that follow. [...]
Graduated Emeritus Student. College of Profitability. Laws of Trade. Like a Gene of Humanity. The Natural Law. Without Regrets. No Apology. Exegesis: "this is free market my baby. Yeah, And you couldn't do anything about it". Hippies: Translation : Yuppies. New Beatles, Monopoly. Social Contestation - Vigorously Initiated - Masticated. Digested. And then a New Social Reorganization. "Self-Soiled Heritage"
