    Story Behind the Song
The song was written during the early'70s, at the time I was performing regularly on the streets and in cafes at Seattle's colorful Pike Place Market. The scene was full of cult members such as the Love Family, who dressed like the pictures in your grandfather's Bible, and also the Children of God, who were peddling pamphlets written by Mo David. Later on many people believedthe comet Kahotek was going to crasdh into the earth. This version was recorded at sessions in 1982 for the "This Feelin'" LP, but the song wasn't included on that. Okie Doke for that session was Marc Bristol, guitar/vocals/harmonica - Quentin Rhoton, washtub bass - Pete Martin, mandolin - Jonathan Schneider, banjo & backing vocals - Marty LePore, spoons.

    The End Of The World
    © Marc Bristol BMI

Some people say this is the end of the world
and I think that I kind of agree
'cause all this talk about apocalpses
    sure sounds bad to me
but instead of hangin' out at the end of the world
    where everything is black
I guess the only thing for me to do
is turn around and go back

Well I guess I ain't gonna miss my chance to be subversive yet
and if everything is black and white - you'd better place your bet
you're either with us or agin us as they used to say
so are you passin' through pardner, or are you here to stay?
the name of this town's the end of the world
with a thousand dead end streets
just lay your money down and watch
    we got lotsa seats

Well speak of the devil they used to say
and who do you think appears
I'll tell you it isn't Santa Claus
to buy you a couple of beers
once they got you believin' someday you might go to hell
you're just as good as already there
and I guess it's just as well
don't let me make up your mind
you be what you want to see
but this here looks like the end of the world
and that's no place for me
