This is a soft ballad type song. It is a very sad song, straight from the heart. |

Story Behind the Song
I actually heard the first three lines of this song while I was still in that half-asleep, half-awake state one morning. When I awoke, I wanted to go back to sleep and hear the rest of the song! Instead, I grabbed a pen and notebook and scribbled down the words that I had heard in my dream. I then went over to my keyboard and picked out the melody so that I wouldn't forget it. As soon as I finished playing the melody, I burst into tears. I was overwhelmed by emotion. I grabbed the pen and notebook again, still weeping, and finished writing the lyrics to the song. It took about ten minutes to finish writing the song and it received only minor modifications before the final cut. The music, on the other hand, was more difficult for me. In my mind, I could hear a soft piano as the only instrument in the beginning of the song. I don't consider myself a pianist, so this was a difficult matter for me to get the piano solo up to an acceptable level. The song is about love that has been rejected. Not only has the love been rejected, but it has been rejected over and over until finally, it is too late to receive. I hope this song touches you as it did me.
Lyrics
(Verse 1)
I loved you
Though I never knew you
You turned my love away
What more could I do
(Chorus)
Go away from me
I'll see you no more
I knocked and I knocked, but you
Never opened the door
Your heart has a secret place
No one else could see
All of the pain inside
My love could have made you free
Go away from me
I can't even call you friend / You never were my friend
And though it hurts so bad
I won't see you again
(Verse 2)
I missed you
Even though I was there
You never took the time
To see how much I care
(Chorus)
(Verse 3)
I loved you
Though I never knew you
These are the saddest words
I've ever had to say
(Chorus)
