Just a generally happy song. Ya know, about life and crap. From a live recording at the Six String Cafe in Raleigh, North Carolina. |

Story Behind the Song
I've always thought it was a lot harder to write a happy song than a sad song. Not that sad songs are easier to write; ask any musician (or any artist for that matter) -- creating is a trying process. But with happy songs, quite frankly, it's hard to not sound like a complete jackass. "Ah, life is so great, everything's going my way, I've got a hot girlfriend, and I'm wading in cash" just doesn't make for good listening.
And that was a tangent. I try to write happy songs a lot -- I'd like to think I'm a generally happy guy -- but they're usually really forced (and kinda stuck up). When I wrote "The Days I'm Glad to Be Alive" it just seemed natural. Like it took no effort at all? If that makes any sense. I always think those types of songs are the best.
Wow, I wrote a long story behind that song ...
Lyrics
The sun rise chases the moon from the skies
Those rays shine through my window pane.
The alarm screams and I wake from my dreams.
Toss away my covers, start another day.
Chorus
Sometimes I want to sleep in late.
Throw away my problems and procrastinate
Then the sunlight dances on my eyes
These are the days I’m glad to be alive
Go down to breakfast, break my daily bread.
A bowl of Corn Flakes and coffee for my head
My best friend greets me with a slobbery kiss
Wags her furry tail and lies down by her dish
