    Story Behind the Song
A response to immigration policies of the late 90's. The song calls to reflect on the fact that (almost) all of us are immigrants or a product of immigration. Immigrants share a quest for a better life and bring with them hard work, dedication and their dreams. Of course there's assholes like in everywhere else, but to generalize and criminalize all immigrants is definitely not cool. The song was written in Boston MA in 2000. It was recorded live at a TV special for PBS

    Lyrics
    Translated from Spanish

    Verse

Listen to what I have to say
I don't know why you don't want to be my friend
I came to this land to work
However you want to set me aside
Bad seeds can be found anywhere
why should the honest ones pay the price?
I'm not asking for your charity,
    All I want is opportunity

    chorus (in English)

    It's an Immigrant Nation
We live in an Immigrant Nation
I work hard for my money
so don't you put the blame on me

    Verse (in Spanish)

    I don't want no misunderstanding
I have faith that not all is lost
Let's united to find a solution
Working together to co-exist in understanding
My people have much to offer
    If you would allow yourself,
I could be your best pal
I'm not asking for your charity
    All I want is opportunity

    chorus (in English)

    It's an Immigrant Nation
We live in an Immigrant Nation
I work hard for my money
so don't you put the blame on me

    Verse

You know well what I'm talking about
    'cause your own people
They had to take the same route
I'm not asking for your charity
    All I want is opportunity

    chorus (in English)

    It's an Immigrant Nation
We live in an Immigrant Nation
I work hard for my money
so don't you put the blame on me
