Story Behind the Song
This song was written not by me, but by loneliness during a painful time. One of the more personal and emotional efforts I've ever done, the vocals took MANY takes because I kept crying. You'll note that I lost it at the end here, but ultimately decided to preserve that.
People often misunderstand the phrase "Singing on the Floor." The song was written while I was doing exactly that, singing while sitting on my bedroom floor. If the only two immortals are music and love, and I was lonely for love, it left only music...hence, left me literally singing on the floor.
I consider this one of my best, if not the best. Haunting, despondent and sad. Why do my best ones come from pain? grrrrrr.....
Lyrics
All the words I never should have said
One direction you should not have led
I offered to fly but you said stay
So I continue my emotional decay
You and I could take it to the end
And it's killing me to just pretend
I can't ride this rollercoaster
You're not here in my four-poster
So I'm left here, singing on the floor
The only two immortals are music and love
So darling, tell me,
Just where does that leave us?
Singing on the floor
I offered to fly but you said stay
So I continue my emotional decay
You and I could take it to the end
And it's killing me to just pretend
I can't ride this rollercoaster
You're not here in my four-poster
So I'm left here, singing on the floor
The only two immortals are music and love
So darling, tell me,
Just where does that leave us?
Singing on the floor
