A song about being on the road. Kind of a take off on "Keep Playin' that Rock 'n' Roll by Edgar Winter's White Trash, only 25 years later. |
CD: Shades of Blue
Label: Diode Grande Records
Credits: Written, performed, and produced by Lester Koshiol |
Story Behind the Song
I still like to hear some good old rock 'n' roll these days when all I seem to hear is new country that sounds a little like rock, or some cranked up heavy metal, or a thumping rap tune. They lyrics came from reminiscing of my life on the road up here in the northern midwest. This one has a funky bass line, a lot of organ, and a dynamic disco break in the middle that reminds me of skyscrapers in NYC. I needed about 5 takes--bass & drum machine, organ, strings, orchestra stabs, and vocal.
Lyrics
I know a lot of truck drivers
But I don't know where they live.
They sure do get around--
They like that country-western.
I like that boogie woogie beat,
Or maybe some hard rock.
But nothing can compare
With a prelude by Bach.
Me, I'm just a city boy
Born and raised in town.
I like that country sound,
But give me some Rock 'n' Roll.
(Instrumental Break)
I'm just passing through town
I need a bite to eat.
So lay it all down,
Then get some sleep.
Then put me up
In your hotel suite.
Don't wake me up
Give me some Rock 'n' Roll.
Me, I'm just a city boy
Born and raised in town.
I like that country sound,
But give me some Rock 'n' Roll.
Give me some Rock 'n' Roll.
Just give me some Rock 'n' Roll.
