Story Behind the Song
This was written near the end of a doomed relationship. I was probably unhappier than I'd ever been, but this song came quickly and agony-free. Funny how those things work.
I recorded the guitar and vocal on one track, and John added piano later at his house.
Lyrics
You are so beautiful,
You are a second sun.
Only the years can destroy you.
Wind can blow your hair,
Night can make you scared,
But only the years can destroy you.
There's a river running over me.
There's a forest growing up around me.
And as far as I can see, you're not gonna make me free.
I'm a little wiser now, and nothing you say can change me.
No nothing you say can change me.
No nothing...
Feasting on morsels,
Gulping the air,
Tight-roping over a canyon.
Get me out of here.
Find a space that's clear
Where I can see the real sun rise behind you.
There's a river running over me.
There's a forest growing up around me.
And as far as I can see, you're not gonna make me free.
I'm a little wiser now, and nothing you say can change me.
No nothing you say can change me.
No nothing...
