    Story Behind the Song
This song was written for a dear friend who tragically died too young. A beautiful presence in many people's lives was taken, but she seems to continue to speak to the hearts of those who loved her.
There was a wicked storm in Nashville the night I heard the news, and I could not remain at work, where I had found out. I went home and wrote this song.
The first time I recorded it, it had rained for many days, and my friend Glenn and his girlfriend Jana were in town. The crickets were chirping loudly, so I opened the door to allow them to be part of the recording.
The next time I recorded this song, I was visiting Nashville from NY. I was at my friend Wayne's apt. I had only brought my 12-string, so that was the guitar used. It turned out to be very appropriate, as the rich harmonies of the guitar inspired the the thick vocal harmonies that had not been recorded into the song previously. Andy recorded the peepers and added them later. It was his Roland digital workstation used again here and he did the mix. I still see Bree in the rain and hear her voice whenever the wind blows, whenever I play this song.

    Lyrics
Soft and sweet, as an angel.
    Warmest blood that runs.
If in need of a candle,
    She holds the only one.

And I'm in need of a friend tonight
'Cause she's flown where I cannot come.
    But she says,
"Let your heart not be lonely tonight.
May your rain be not far from your sun."
