Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song about feeling isolated. It was inspired by somebody my sister knew, and is dedicated to her and anybody else who feels alone and misunderstood. The song ended up sounding pretty upbeat, despite its serious nature. But it's a message of compassion and hope, above all else.
Lyrics
CHERIE
chorus:
Cherie, don't you want to come outside
Cherie, it's not enough to be alive
When you're born into a world
That doesn't understand you, girl
Oh but Cherie
Cherie I understand
They laugh
They smile
And you're lonely all the while
All by yourself
No one
Can see
All you really want is to be free
To be yourself
There's nothing else
(chorus)
Oh oh oooh
Oh oh oooh
You dance
And you play
But that doesn't mean that you're okay
It doesn't mean a thing
You come up
For air
From the bottom of your heart somewhere
And you don't hear a thing
From here I sing, oooh
Cherie, don't you want to come outside
Don't hide, no, Cherie
It's hard enough to be alive
When you're born into a world
That doesn't understand you, girl
Oh but Cherie
Cherie I understand
Oh Cherie
Cherie I understand
