Acoustic/Folk Rock, doubled acoustics, layered vox, especially at end, where Andy kicks it into stratospheric gear and throws down on the drums. This song is worth listening to if only for that and the cool message... |

Story Behind the Song
This song came to me shortly after my second move to Nashville in 1995. It describes my feeling that we are all joined together...that our individual humanity depends upon our brothers' and sisters' freedom and humanity, so we might as well accept that as fact and live in harmony.
Andy and I threw this down on his Roland VS1680 in my mother and step-father's garage in fair Verona, NY with the thruway traffic roaring by on one side and the trains rumblin' down the line on the other. Well, it worked out. See what you think.
Lyrics
You sir, did not win your gold
without me and my part.
And you, friend did not murder
without lookin' in my heart.
And if you clear me of these crimes
Then I'll pretend that I don't see
You sneakin' in my garden to see Adam
behind Eve.
And to think that I was blind
To all the things that I could be
But now my conscience is revived
'Cause where would I be?
Chorus:
I can't live unless you live
I can't see unless you see
I can't hear until you hear
I can't believe til you believe
Can't fly with you on the ground
I can't run with you at sea
The only thing that I have found:
There's no you that's without me
...How can you say that we are free?
People talk about the lie of education.
People give to government and get false representation.
If I had known I'd be a prostitute
For all the world to see,
I'd have stripped away my armour
And would gladly for you bleed.
And to think that I was blind
To all the things that I could be.
But now my vision is defined,
'Cause my brother is me.
Chorus (repeat)
