Lyrics
Hush Little Baby
Amanda: Gee daddy, I love my new bicycle! It's the best bike in town. Everyone loves it, especially Billy; his family is so poor. Why are they so poor, daddy?
Amanda's dad: See honey, some people don't have the same opportunities our family has. I guess we're pretty lucky.
Amanda: umm…oh…Daddy, are we still going to Hawaii? When, when, when are we going?
Amanda's dad: Oh, you're just going have to wait until next week.
Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's going to buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's going to buy you a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns to brass,
Mama's going to buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's going to buy you a billy goat.
And if that billy goat won't pull,
Daddy's going to buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull turn over,
Daddy's going to buy you a dog named Rover.
Billy: Mommy, look at those rich people, the Rockafellers, in their big shiny car,
I know it's fast! And we always have to ride the bus or walk. Why can't we buy a car like that? I'm tired of the crowds and waiting on the street, getting wet in the rain and sweaty in the heat. Someday I'll get a good job ma, won't be poor any more! And someday, maybe daddy will come home and help you ma.
And if that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's going to buy you a horse and cart.
And if that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the richest little baby in town.
Billy's mom: Billy, come here son, I need to talk to you. I just got a telephone call from the police dept. It's bad news, your dad is in jail. I guess he's been robbing people, crazy fool. Billy, you've go to take a different road, get out of this mean little town. Find your calling, use that great mind of yours for something good. You'll make a better life for yourself. And maybe someday you'll come back and help your ma get out of here too.
