Heartfelt tribute song performed by Who Gives a Toss, dedicated to the late, great Ben Jackson actor Michael Craze. |
CD: Return to Kendal
Label: TMEAudio
Credits: Composed by Matt Dale. People who give a toss are (in order of appearance): Matt Jeffery, Steve Wilson, Time Lady Rebeca, Gareth Preston, Matt Dale, Gwyndaf Evans (Vocals); Kev West (Piano, Keyboard, Vocals); John Rayner (Guitar); Alan van Loen (Electric Guitar). |
Story Behind the Song
The vocals were mailed to us via the internet by fellow Michael Craze fans in Australia, America, Manchester and Wales - none of whom we've ever met. The sample is from an unreleased 1994 BBC Video "Doctor Who - The Tenth Planet", in which Craze introduced the (then rumoured) return of Episode 4.
Lyrics
Days go by and by they seem to hit me like a haze
What are we going to do now you're not in our lives, Michael Craze?
We loved you, we respected you, and you were there for us
Now you're gone we're singing this song because
We miss you like Craze-y
Won't you please come back, won't give you no flack, we said your accent was cack, we were wrong, Michael Craze
After what had gone before you were the show's best male feature
Steven was dull and Ian was too cute to be a teacher
You fought Daleks by saying "alright guv'nor, calm down"
And all we could say was "Nussink in ze vurld can schtop Mickal now!"
Now you're gone
There's nothing left of you
Except videos of War Machines
And "The Moonbase" Part 2
And lurking in fans collections
That unforgettable moment
When you told us
"Recently "The Tenth Planet" Episode 4 has been returned"
But you left behind you something greater, a kind of legacy
You taught us how to live our lives, you taught us how to be
You showed us what to do, how to be just like you, how to fight a Yeti sitting on a Tooting Bec loo!
