Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song as a challenge one night. I was in the mood to put pen to paper and I needed an inspiration or subject. Sitting in the sound-booth at my church in Long Beach, CA, I said "The first thing (the associate pastor) says, will be the subject of my song." He came up to the podium, tried on a pair of "Groucho Marx" glasses/nose/moustache and when the congregation laughed at him, he said, "(It) doesn't do much for me."
Lyrics
Doesnt Do Much 4 Me
Words and Music by Dave Beatty
Streets tonight, marvel at the sight.
Local bars, flashy cars
Modern twenty-first century man
All alone, grab my cell phone,
"...wait for the beep," and Im glued to my seat
I must say Im not impressed
Doesnt do much for me (Its all a lie)
Doesnt do much for me (God, how I try)
Doesnt do much for me (My life is mine)
Doesnt do much for me
Look what Ive found
Our worlds goin down
Modern war
Whats in store
Come on, Im not like that
Corner "offers"
And Id rather not bother
Media agrees
Sex is free
Its not my way of life
Culture shock
Stop the clock
Upper aids
Razor blades
It doesnt appeal here.
No life of sin,
Dont know where to begin
Im not bad
Yet so sad
Someone please point the way
