As a transplant from the North, this is my homage to the South. Another awesome production by Gary Burnette. (If you like Tom Petty, give this a listen.) |

Story Behind the Song
Dave Berg is a great singer/songwriter on his own. Lucky for me that he did this demo. Gary Burnette has produced artists for major labels. He's also an amazing guitar player as you'll hear. The track was cut and mixed in his home studio.
Lyrics
Was it something in the water of the Mississippi
Wild honeysuckle that made your lips
Taste so sweet, mm, hmm sugar sweet
Could've been a hummingbird gave your voice a song
Tennessee rain that made your skin so, so
Fine and soft, oh yeah, oh yeah
Memphis mama, how'd you get so pretty
Ain't nothing like you back in Kansas City
Now I'm good and gone
Can't get over your eyes
Feeling the fire
Southern soul shining in those Dixie blues
Did lightning make the flame that's burning in your touch
Sun on the cotton fields that gave your cheeks
That applepie blush, oo too much
How'd you get me smiling from ear to ear
Spinning around like a riverboat wheel
Churning, churning up
All churned up
What's going on with those eyes
Like fire in the night
That's Southern soul in those Dixie blues
Can't get over your eyes
Feeling the fire
Southern soul shining in those Dixie blues
I hear it in the music
Feel it in the heat
Smell it in the air
Soul going way back, far back to Adam and Eve
Can't get over your eyes
Baby, the fire
Southern soul shining in those Dixie blues
No getting over
Those Dixie blues
