Story Behind the Song
the main idea behind this song is the unhappiness bordering on depression experienced by myself associated with the immaturity of both girls and guys, especially the girls, who should be at the college freshman level, and technically are, but are nowhere near ready to act independently and lead respectable lives. also there is the theme of contrast between a successful past relationship against zero relationships while at college and feelings of regret and lament, but the song ends out with a positive spin on things
Lyrics
I Bet You’d like Flowers
Explain this sickness, budding in my mind
Ever soft presence, yet still calmly observed
Subtle days swing by, is it growing still?
Smiles shatter into paltry memento
Incentives undecidedly clear, slumber is unmatched
There is pleasure in a bed of roses
I’ll tread through the path of thorns
Others proceed as products of charming conformity
Flowers appeal, but patience breeds eventual respite
Unlike the flora of spring, certain embrace never dies
