The tragic story of John Holmes told only like the Mezcaleros can do...
    CD: The Mezcaleros

    Story Behind the Song
The song was written after Johnny G. Read an article in Rolling Stone of how John Holmes had lived and died. It was a sad and tragic story and Johnny ended up writing it fairly quickly.

    Lyrics
    Johnny died a lonely man
    Amidst all them women
    The list was long
    The book was thick
But not one came to see him
Johnny had the touch you see
    Johnny had the tool
    Johnny never let them down
    He was always cool

    You and I can’t deny
    Johnny was a friend
And he knew we were there
    Watching till the end

Johnny fell in with a crowd
    That he couldn’t shake
Too much dope, too much crack
    Led him to his grave
    Johnny’s black book always open
    Many numbers many names
Made us wish we were like him
    Playing all those games

    You and I can’t deny
    Johnny was a friend
And he knew we were there
    Watching till the end

    Instrumental Break

    You and I can’t deny
    Johnny was a friend
And he knew we were there
    Watching till the end
