Well, it's been a while, but here's something new, and again probably of interest only to other basesment-bound guitar weirdos. Yeah!
The main point here was to set up the new studio and get everything working. The secondary idea was to position several (actually seven) guitar parts around the mix and have them sound clean. The third idea was to incorporate a much more complex drum part. The fourth was to create a completely open harmonic environment (none of the chords have thirds until the picardy third at the end) and to have the melody define the tonality. The lesson learned: it's *very* hard to create a melody strong enough to do that!
You might notice the complete absence of bass guitar--when I pick up a new bass, a remix of this song will be forthcoming. |

Story Behind the Song
This took several takes to prepare because of numerous problems setting up the new PC hardware on which it was recorded. It's had 16 and 24 bit existences (the result is 16 because there's still a problem with 24-bit mixdowns).
All the guitar parts (including the acoustic ones) are my trusty Carvin DC-127 through the incredible Johnson J-Station and directly into a SoundBlaster Audigy2 recording in 16-bit at 48KHz. Higher resolution settings still aren't working for some reason. Recording software is Cakewalk's Guitar Tracks Pro. Drums are courtesy of the SmartLoops drum software included with Guitar Tracks Pro. The screeching distortion at the end is feedback from my CRT monitor (up against which I held my guitar, just for laughs).
Peace.
