Story Behind the Song
the song was written while staying w/ a couple of friends in a small north Carolina town. Situations occured that had me thinking about where I'd been & where I'm going. Wrote, arranged & recorded this in about 4 hrs on a tascam 4 trk analog and a boss drum machine. I tuned a fender strat down low and played it lightly for the bass guitar. The back up vox, were recoprded to a stereo tape deck then back into the 4 trk. weird primitive experiment.
Lyrics
Chorus: Away you go, on down the road
Away you go, out in the cold
-
Busy doing things that ya do, Thinkin' straight that it's all true.
Workin' hard like they say you should, make a mistake and you're knockin' on wood
I can't deny it, ya know I've been wrong, but I've always thrown someone else a bone
I've just seen the tables turned. I think I got a little burned
CH:
Now I'm not complaining about what I did, I acted like a confused kid
And , I don't blame the lack of trust even after admitting my part in the bust
Still I have a hard time getting it straight, bein' shoved out the door hearing, "it's just too late"
Because I've been had once or twice, but I gave another chance, a roll of the dice.
Then I ask...Hah! Yeah, sure
CH:
Bridge: There must be something for something, that tells me something. Tells me something.

Aesop's fables never clarified exactly just how deep and wide. Somewhere-somewhere between the lines showed me a little. Oh yeah.
Still I don't get it, picking up so straight
Being shoved out the door hearing, "ahh, it's just too late"
Workin' hard like ya know you should
Make a mistake...OUCH! Destitute.
Maybe there's some hope in that last return.
