Story Behind the Song
This song was recorded in 10 minutes on April 18,2003. I recorded it on the little plastic microphone that came with my computer. It took 10 minutes because I had to keep moving away from the microphone to keep the sound of the guitar from distorting. Main vocals and guitar were recorded together. I added the second vocal harmony to complement the chorus.
Lyrics
Leave the keys to my front door on the kitchen table before you walk out of here. You see the difference between wrong and right don't add up to our happiness tonight and I'm feeling scared. Had it up to here. Don't you give up on me.
Bob Dylan said, "Don't think twice" and for the most part I think that he was right, but I'm havin' second thoughts. Cos this ain't cool and sure as hell, ain't alright. So tell me where were you on the night stars fell? Had it up to here. Don't you give up on me.
Clear my throat to clear my head and write the words I should have said a long, long time ago. A poem is not a song but a letter is a curse. When you get this I'll be on the road. Had it up to here. Don't you give up on me.
It might be a Chevrolet, that gets me goin' on my way, but I'll be lookin' into the rearview. Thoughts of me, thoughts of you, a distant life we never knew, may be closer than we appear. Had it up to here. Don't you give up on me.
