Story Behind the Song
This is one of my more testeronic tunes. It came from fiddling around on my spanish guitar, and "I'm a Train" just came to me. I'd never written a train song before, so I got on the net to learn some train lingo. There I discovered terms like "humpyard", "hot wheels", "shoo-fly", and "dynamite", and I incorporated them into some verses. While laying down the lead guitar, I found myself conjuring up old Jeff Beck-type licks. You may notice references to "Train Kept a-Rollin", "Going Down", and "Barabajacal", as well as some of me own; plus dabbling in a little new-found Monte Montgomery-type tap harmonics. Fun!
Lyrics
REFRAIN:
I'm a train
Rollin' down the tracks for you
I'm a train
(I) Know just where I ‘m going to
But I ain't gonna stop at no depot, no,
At any town I'm going through
I'm using fire steam and diesel -
Even a trolley pole
Any other trains on my track
Had better take the hole
[REFRAIN]
And I ain't gonna stop in your station, no,
Look out now I'm a-coming through
You know I've been in the hump yard
And my wheels are hot
You could be my box car baby
We'll never pull apart
[REFRAIN]
And I ain't gonna look for no trouble, no,
Just where these tracks might lead me to
I'm a train
[Solo]
Feel like I'm always going downhill
Bailing can't be right
I could use a shoofly baby
Might have to dynamite
[REFRAIN]
And that little light that's in the tunnel, yeah,
Might be your train coming back at you
I'm a train, yeah
I'm a train
