Story Behind the Song
There actually was an idea behind the lyrics on this song. I wanted the lyrics to ring true whether a from the point of view of a megastar or an assassin. The song has several pretty cool guitar riffs and alot of things going on. When I wrote it I thought it had some fairly heavy overtones musically. The arrangement really hasn't changed much from when the song was initially introduced. Richard and Heidi added the lead and vocal harmonization towards the end.
Lyrics
Staring at the sun, dancing in the fire
You’re a feather in the wind, you’re the bird out on the wire
And still you hear their screams, as an answer to your calling
Another battle fought, still the pendulum is falling
Standing at the edge, on the outside looking in
There’s no one you can trust, no one you can call a friend
You say it’s no concern, say there’s no devil in the deal
All you need’s a couple shots, then there’s nothing left to feel
You’ve grown accustomed to the Isolation
It’s just a part of your occupation
No time to think about the implications now
Staring at the sun, dancing in the fire
You’re a feather in the wind, you’re the bird out on the wire
You say it’s no concern, say there’s no devil in the deal
All you need’s a couple shots, then there’s nothing left to feel
You’e grown accustomed to the Isolation
It’s just a part of your occupation
No time to think about the implications now
There’s no escaping the complications
It’s a sticky situation
Is there still the fascination now?
