Story Behind the Song
This song was written 25 years ago as a message to my wife of 28 years.
The lyrics mean to love me as I am and I will do the same with you without trying to make either of us change from who we really are.
This song took about 4 hours to write and only about 4 hours to record with no more than 5 or 6 takes.
Lyrics
Take Me As I Am
by
Ronald G. Turner
I. On Tuesday we were so in love
We kissed and touched like children play
Angry grown up words soon spoiled the fun
My passion left me and I felt that love was gone
Hook:
If you love me, take me as I am
If you love me, take me as I am
You can’t change me and I can’t change you
II. Our wedding was six years ago
People and gifts, flash and show
Though our honeymoon has passed
Our happiness wasn’t in that champagne glass
Hook:
If you love me, take me as I am
If you love me, take me as I am
You can’t change me and I can’t change you
Bridge:
Can we face our ups and downs and stay in love
Oh, it’s so hard
Can we make or break this love
Let’s make peace within ourselves
II. Why do little things upset us so
I want to stay and I want to go
We should be having an affair with our affair
People watch us but love will make them stare
Hook:
If you love me, take me as I am
If you love me, take me as I am
You can’t change me and I can’t change you
Take me, as I am Take me as I am
