A hilarious tale of two street performing musical clown bums
    CD: Demo   Label: Avant-garde Productions
Credits: Music and Lyrics by Bizy B

    Story Behind the Song
The original members of Monkey Shines (Bizy B, B Money, and El Rojo) were down in San Jose, CA. They had just come back from visiting Big Skinny in Half Moon Bay. It was Cinco de Mayo, 1999. As they drove past downtown they saw thousands of people partying in the streets. They parked at the house on E Julian Street and walked downtown. It was chaos- absolute madness. They walked around a corner and saw a bum who was dressed in a clown suit. He was drunk and he was playing a trumpet- trying to get some more money for booze.

Bizy B wrote the song the next day. The first verse is true- the rest sprang from imagination.

    Lyrics
Bozo the bum was dizzy on his rum
He was playing on a horn in need of a drum
He was really quite drunk- sounding very strange
eyebrows full of fur- looking quite deranged

He had curly red hair, pollups on his nose
    a crimson-stained face, redder than a rose
He was totally decked out in full clown suit decor
He had a little blue tie that Ive seen before
Bozo the Bum played down on Market Street
with a head full of whisky and pennies at his feet. (oh yeah)

Pennyscrounge the clown was the new clown around
He could play a mean sax but he was lacking in the facts
He liked to huff on the gas, wail on the fumes
Breathe in the dust of spray can purfumes

He had curly green hair and paint on his face
A one piece suit, a second in his case
He had a cross-eyed stare and it made you wonder where
was he looking at you or was he looking over there?

Pennyscrounge the clown played down on first street
with a head full of fumes and pennies at his feet. (oh yeah)

Bozo the bum was busy with his beam
He was saving his money to buy some Irish Cream
He had on his hand a dirty sock puppet
He was his best friend and he wailed on the trumpet

Pennyscrounge the clown had a street cleaning tongue
He had to play his sax with one collapsed lung
He was foggy in the brain somewhat addle-patted
If he wasnt high on fumes he was heavily sedated

Bozo the Bum met Pennyscrounge the clown
on a mid-summer day in the middle of town (oh yeah)

Bozo the Bum was a boozer for life
He was breast-fed gin from his fathers third wife
He had an empty can of Spam that he used as a mute
and a broken piece of tube for a make-shift flute

But he and Penny were bound to set their sights
to the goals of stardom and living in the heights
They had some problems they were both getting older
and neither one of them could seem to stay sober

Bozo was a drinking drinker of drinks
and Pennys head served as a science lab sink (oh yeah)

Bozo and Penny had not yet played a tune
when a man dressed in blue came and said they had to move
So they packed up their things and headed to L.A.
where they knew they could hang and play all day

Bozo and Penny knew they had to learn
So they stayed out and played until the sun burned
They got real good- they got real tight
A man came by and said youre out of sight

Next thing ya know, Bozo and Penny were aglow
with a million dollar advance and their own t.v. show (oh yeah)
