    Story Behind the Song
of the guild's name-giving (freely invented by myself), and was originally intended to feature Efram Grey on the trumpet.
The "legend" is told by a minstrel; the dead hero's spirit-voice juts in some things in between. Enjoy!

    Lyrics
    [Minstrel]
    With sunrise they came
And it was many who came
With blood lust and death in their eyes

    The dew-sprinkled grass
    They turned into mud
And their fires turned crimson the skies

    So the call went out
For the heroes of the land
To fight for the desperate cause

    And drive from the gates
    Of elfdom and man
    The host of pillaging foes

    Many perished
    Butchered and slain
    On Hibernia's rolling hills

    And hope seemed lost
    Till a champion of man
Stood his ground and refused to yield

//On his cloak was emblazoned a white star
//His great sword shone with a holy light
//On a narrow bridge he stood alone
    //Facing them all
//Knowing that day he would die (x2)

    [The hero's spirit-voice]
"What is it like to die...? I shall find out today, if fate wills it so. I leave behind my lovely wife and child; have left behind all thought of them as well--replaced hope with dire certainty. May the Light guide my blade, that I may save what I hold dearest."

    [Minstrel]
    For hours he fought
    Valiant and brave
Till the old sun stood high in the sky

    And when midday had passed
    A shot from behind
Pierced his heart and ended his life

//The dark blood made of his white star a black star
//His fiery blade dimmed with the light in his eyes
//On the bridge he fell with a smile on his face
    //And to this day
//No foe dares pass where he lies
//They honor the place where he died...

    [spirit-voice]
"What is it like to die? It's the final release from the stage of life to the realms beyond; it is laughter and pain as I finally yield to the arrow in my chest... and in a hundred pairs of eyes can read love and awe with mine breaking own. I look past the sunset at different shores... a whispered farewell, a final smile, a gentle fall--may the Light welcome me home."
