Story Behind the Song
I'll never forget it. I was playing a club in Annandale Virginia with one of my other musical lives (Grunjee Mutt) and at some point I realized Todd from the Excentrics was in the house. I asked him if he would mind taking my guitar and playing 'Never thought I would' as a favor to me. And he did just that and it sounded great!
It was a cool moment and Todd was just as cool when I emailed him about recording it.
Thanks again for such a great tune Todd and if you ever wish to collaborate, email me.
Lyrics
I never thought I'd be giving advice to you,
To the man who now stands looking with love in those eyes that I thought were so true,
Just don't press her, man, she don't like that anymore,
Let her go free, 'cause I'd hate you to see what it's like when she walks out your door,
And promise me this promise, look into her eyes for me.
Just don't hold her, like I held her,
Just don't touch her like I did,
No, don't tell her you want her like I used to do,
Don't live so she can live,
Just don't love her like I loved her, even though you probably should,
Just don't tell her you'll kiss her like I used to do,
It ain't gonna do you no good,
You'll just miss her like I never thought I would.
I never thought that love could feel this bad,
Turning from something that turned me around to the worst dream that I ever had,
Just don't lose her, man, you won't like it if you do,
Some high school fling to a permanent thing is the difference between me and you,
So do just one favor and kiss her just one time for me.
Just don't hold her like I held her,
Just don't touch her like I did,
No, don't tell her you'll want her like I used to do,
Don't live so she can live,
Just don't love her like I loved her, even though you probably should,
Just don't tell her you'll kiss her like I used to do,
It ain't gonna do you no good,
You'll just miss her like I never thought I would.
