Story Behind the Song
This song took about a dozen rehearsals for it to completely take shape. We recorded it in about 4-5 hours. It took a few takes to nail it musically and only one vocal take which was good.It took a further couple of hours to mix down and then another hour or so to master. We wrote this song together at our rehearsal studio. The motivation behind the song was to make a protest against materialism and advertising/ marketing etc. We felt that choices in life were taking a back seat to a life of being pulled around and enticed by fancy advertisements. In a sense it does feel like an interrogation of sorts, surveys, news polls etc. Hence the title was born -Interrogation.At another level the song was inspired by stories that Brodie had read about pilots who had been captured in the 91 Gulf war, and the ordeals they went through during their imprisonment.Hope was a key factor in their perseverance so 'hope' in itself was addressed in 'Interrogation' as well.
Lyrics
Anything and everything whatever it takes, whatever they want
Time is stolen from my hands seeping through my fingers like sand to the ocean
Hope is like a flicker of light
You can make it shine so bright
Makes a way, takes to flight
When there's no way out
Advertise, materialise, publicise and glorify, lure and entice
They try to drag me where they want grabbing at whatever I've got to get what they're after
Hope is like a flicker of light
You can make it shine so bright
Makes a way, takes to flight
When there's no way out
They can't touch what's within
Outside their chains are wrapped around me
We're all slaves to something
But only we let that be by giving away what we got for free
Hope is like a flicker of light
You can make it shine so bright
Makes a way, takes to flight
When there's no way out
Hope is like a flicker of light
You can make it shine so bright
It makes a way, yeah it takes to flight
When there's no way out, no way out, no way out
When there's no way out, hope won't disappoint, when there's no way out.
