Story Behind the Song
We are mostly known for Nina's strong voice. At every live show people would ask if we cover any songs from Heart. At the time we only did 'Crazy On You' and they would nod in approval. But they would always add, "You should do 'Barracuda', Nina's voice is perfect for that song!". So we learned 'Barracuda' to see how it would go over. It's actually a pretty hard tune to play due to the 5/4 time signature in the verses (musicians who know this tune will know what I'm talking about). The song was finally learned & we played it live & sure enough we did get a great response for it. We recorded the song under a previous incarnation of the band called Loudshine. The song received some airplay on local radio and overseas but we obviously didn't become hugely successful. Now that we are Sister Boombox we still perform this song and it still gets rave reviews thanks in part to that car commercial that features this song. Now it's not just the classic rock 'dudes' that know this song but younger 'dudes' as well.
Lyrics
BARRACUDA
Words and Music by Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Roger Fisher, and Michael DeRosier
So this ain't the end, I saw you again today.
I had to turn my heart away.
Smile like the sun; kisses for everyone. And tales, it never fails!
You lying so low in the weeds.
I bet you gonna ambush me.
You'd have me down, down, down on my knees.
Now wouldn't you, Barracuda?
Back over time when we were all trying for free, you met the porpoise and me.
No right, no wrong; selling a song, a name. Whisper game.
And if the real thing don't do the trick,
you better make up something quick.
You gonna burn, burn, burn it to the wick.
Ooh, Barracuda.
"Sell me, sell you," the porpoise said.
Dive down deep, now. Save my head, you.
I think that you got the blues too.
All that night and all the next,
swam without looking back.
Made for the western pools.
Silly, silly fools.
The real thing don't do the trick,
you better make up something quick.
You gonna burn, burn, burn it to the wick.
Ooh, Barracuda.
